Osteopathic Standards

All osteopaths practising in the UK have completed rigorous training. Students of osteopathy follow a four or five-year degree course, during which they study anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, nutrition and biomechanics. In addition they undergo a minimum of 1,000 hours of clinical training.

The practice of osteopathy is regulated in the United Kingdom by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and, by law, all osteopaths working in the UK must be registered with the GOsC in order to practise.

The GOsC work with the public and osteopathic profession to promote patient safety by registering qualified professionals, and setting, maintaining and developing standards of osteopathic practice and conduct.
